Jamie Carragher makes Alexander-Arnold transfer prediction after Liverpool goal (2025)

Jamie Carragher made a prediction over Trent Alexander-Arnold’s future at Anfield after his emotional winner in Liverpool’s victory over Leicester City.

Liverpool looked set to drop points at the King Power Stadium on Sunday before second-half substitute Alexander-Arnold rifled home a 76th-minute winner.

The goal edged Liverpool closer to the Premier League title and confirmed Leicester’s relegation to the Championship.

Alexander-Arnold whipped off his shirt and sprinted towards the travelling fans after breaking the deadlock, passionately celebrating with the Liverpool supporters.

Some fans questioned whether Alexander-Arnold’s passionate celebration was a sign that he had decided to snub a summer move to Real Madrid and stay at his boyhood club.

The England star, out of contract in the summer, has been heavily linked with a move to the Bernabeu and gave little away in a post-match interview with Sky Sports.

‘Look, I’ve said all season, I’m not going to speak about my situation, I won’t go into details,’ he said.

‘But these moments are always special. These memories will live with my forever.

‘The fans have been outstanding. They have pushed us every game and they did the same today as well.

‘The least they deserve is seeing us giving 100% on the pitch and win the game. It’s very special.’

Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk, who were also coming to the end of their contract at Liverpool, have already committed their long-term futures to the club.

But Liverpool legend Carragher does not expect Alexander-Arnold to follow suit and believes the 26-year-old had already made up his mind.

Asked whether anything could be read into Alexander-Arnold’s reaction to scoring against Leicester, Carragher said: ‘Not really.

‘He hasn’t really spoken all season about his future all year. Whether a decision has already been made, I think most people think it has.

‘It’s difficult for him to give an honest answer. The frustration with Liverpool fans is that throughout the process with Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah it was always under the remit they wanted to stay.

‘That tells you everything with Trent, who is a local boy. Most of us probably know what’s going to happen.’

After winning at the King Power Stadium, Liverpool need just three points to clinch the Premier League title. Arne Slot’s side face Tottenham at Anfield next weekend.

Woeful Leicester relegated from Premier League

While Liverpool moved one step closer to the title, Leicester’s relegation from the Premier League was confirmed with five games remaining.

Leicester are the second team to be relegated following Southampton, with Ipswich Town set to join those two clubs in the Championship next season.

‘We’ve not been good enough all season,’ Leicester defender Conor Coady said.

‘I thought we played quite well today, moved the ball well and nullified Liverpool – they’re a world-class side. But we look back on this season and it’s not been anywhere near good enough.

‘We’ve got to look at ourselves as players in the mirror. We have to now, what’s happened has happened. We have to try and put this club in a better position come the summer because we haven’t been good enough.

‘We’ve took a bit of stick and we’ll continue to take stick because it’s deserved. From minute one this season, we haven’t been at a level to fully compete in the Premier League and you have to be because it’ll chew you up and spit you out.

‘It’s something we have to look at because we’re absolutely devastated.’
